Albizia julibrissin

Albizia are a group of sub tropical trees the most common being Albizia julibrissin or 'Silk Tree'. Now they will grow in the Uk, but they need a sunny warm position that is not exposed to cold winds or heavy frost.

They seem most successful in a conservatory or in a container on a warm patio.

Growing and Care

Albizia Julibrissin Rosea 'Summer Chocolate' is a purple foliaged cultivar, the same fernlike foliage however a lovely purple colour instead. The flower colour is purple and cream.

In the UK all Albizia work best in a warm position, a patio or in a south facing walled garden is excellent.

Most home gardeners tend to prune regularly to keep these tropical looking trees to a smaller size. If left to their own devices they can reach a height of 5m (18ft).
