Bedding Plants
If you are looking at providing masses of color in the garden in spring summer or autumn, then bedding plants may be the answer. They may only provide a temporary display, however with careful selection and staggered planting you can have flowers from spring to autumn.
In public parks and gardens these mass displays are usually timed for summer and again for autumn, so two plantings a year. On a smaller scale in the home garden ypu can have a little more flexibility.
Bedding plants are also useful in hanging basketsand containers and you can grow them from seed, although plugs are much easier.
Used in mass plantings to make a colourful show of flowers or foliage, bedding plants provide instant seasonal colour and may be used as stand alone plantings or as 'fillers' for the border. Grown from seed or purchased as plugs or seedlings, larger pots or trays of bedding plants are also available in season.
Usually planted in mass plantings, sometimes in patterns or shapes. Bedding plants are also widely used as fillers in the garden border.
