Fritillaria pinardii
Fritillaria pinardii (see picture right) is another from the Mediterranean, largish bell shaped flowers a mahogany colour with yellow interiors, although it is a species that is very variable in form and colour.
Glaucous broad leaved and flowering in early spring, growing well in the rock garden or in a trough. As you can see, the petals develop a recurved nature as the flowers develop, this shows the yellow very well.

Care
An easy species to grow both from seed and by division. Fritillaria pinardii does require a dry summer dormancy, however when growing in containers do ensure that the soil does not dry to the point of dessication.
