Pyracantha is grown mostly as a hedging plant where it has a number of desirable qualities.

It is almost evergreen, in colder areas partly deciduous, it is thorny, which is a benefit for detering intruders, not to many people will push through a Pyracantha hedge. The attractive white flowers in spring are followed by masses of red berries, which can also look great.

Pyracantha Care

Beside the usual pruning Pyracantha requires little acre, however older plants can begin to show signs of deterioration. This is often due to lack of fertilizer and dry summers. As it is a plant that is grown along fences, beneath the eves of houses and other buildings it can be a the driest position in the garde, so a little annual mulch and some water will help it along.
