Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer' and other species
Pryus species include the Callery pears (Pyrus calleryana) Pyrus ussuriensis (Manchurian Pear) and other ornamental pear species, many well suited for the UK garden.
The widely grown Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer' is originally from China and is renown for the wonderful display of flowers in spring. This is an upright or columnar form that does tend to 'round out' a little as it matures. Flowering early in the season followed by good green foliage which will turn to orange and red in autumn.
Excellent as a street tree, for lining a driveway and as a screening tree in commercial developments. Reaching 10 - 15m in height depending on conditions Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer' does hold its foliage until late, and as it flowers early makes a good screen for a deciduous tree.
