Ajuga reptans Plants
Ajuga plants and species such as ajuga reptans are commonly used as a ground cover plant, attractive foliage and flowers rising above on taller spikes in spring make this a versatile carpeting plant. Aguga reptans or 'bugleweed' being the most widely for sale in the UK. Reaching around 15cm depending on cultivar it quickly forms a dense matt. Cultivars such as 'Caitlins Giant' are taller growing to 60cm.
Flower color varies only a little from the usual blues however foliage ranges from the greeny blues through to deep crimson with' silvery lime' coloured variegations.
Ajuga Care and Growing Hints
Ajuga make a great ground cover in full sun to part shade and are not really fussy about soil requirements. A tough plant with few requirements, dark blue to purple flowering stems above green, purple, pink or cream leaves. Light shade or shade and deadhead after flowering to keep neat.
