Vegetable Garden Calendar
- Asparagus is a perennial best planted in early spring. Best not harvested during the first year to allow the plant to become established. Asparagus crowns can last 25 years. Mulch in winter.
- Artichokes can be planted in May
- Beans such as french beans and Runner beans can be planted in May - June
- Beets Sow seed and thin. May - July
- Cabbage Plant cabbages in Feb - June depending on area and type.. high nitrogen fertilizer every 4 weeks. Spring cabbages can be planted in august
- Carrots Sow early Jan -August, harvest when young. Stagger plantings every two - three weeks.
- Cauliflowers can be planted in April- June
- Cucumbers . Jan -May
- Kale can be planted from May to August
- Lettuce
Plant Lettuce in April - May. Winter lettuce such as Arctic King can be planted in September
- Onions Sow seed Feb - June.
- Peas Plant peas in April - June at intervals of two weeks
- Rhubarb Plant in spring to harvest 1 year later. Lots of organic mater.
- Spinach Keep Can be planted in April - August Soil pH 6.0 and 6.7 Pick spinach when young and tender, this also prevents spinach from running to seed
- Tomatoes Plant out in May. They could still require frost protection. Stake plants or use tomato trellis. Best in hothouses in UK. Pick when base of tomato shows signs of color, tomatos will ripen indoors
- Zuchinni, sow direct in spring
