Although they grow wild throughout the cooler regions of Europe, they do not seem to be popular in cultivation. The flavour is a little like an 'intense blueberry'. The fruits are small and plants can be found growing in woodland area and heaths.

The botanical name is Vaccinium myrtillus and the French simply call them Myrtille.
