Primula sieboldii
The Japanese Primrose (primula sieboldii) has been in cultivation for hundreds of years and is a fairly easy plant to grow both in the garden and in pots or containers.
A woodland plant that prefers a humus rich moist soil in a part shaded position (dappled shade is best) Primula sieboldii produces an excellent show of flowers held above pretty light green foliage. Flowers seem to 'keep coming' for over a month or two in our garden so we love it. we even use them as cut flowers, they seem to last well.
Care
These species primulas can be grown from seed if available but more usually Primula sieboldii are found for sale as seedlings. Plat them in groups of 8 -10 in the garden, or try them in pots or containers.
Clumps can be divided during late summer to autumn and be replanted to increase the magical carpet that they form. Flowers are generally a pink mauve however white flowering plants (Primula sieboldii 'alba') are also available
