Trigger plants - Stylidium
Another plant that is said to be carnivorous is theTrigger plant or Stylidium species. Stylidium bulbiferum is an example with the anther and stigma on a elastic stem that is activated when an insect lands on it, this assists with pollination.
The sticky substances on the flowers trap insects.
Stylidium gramifoliaum is a perennial grasslike plant form Australia found widely along the eastern coast. While the lower growing Stylidium caepitosum is from Western Australia and grows in damp areas near waterways in the South West of that state. One species S. affine has attractive mauve flowers, sometimes called the 'Queen trigger plant'.
